USMNT Legend Warns Tim Weah Against Nottingham Forest Transfer originally appeared on Athlon Sports .
The Nottingham Forest is finalizing the agreement with Juventus to sign Timothy Weah . The 25-year-old USMNT star is set to join the Premier League, but the national team's legendary goalkeeper Tony Meola doesn't like the move.
From a very young age, Tim was exposed to the highest level of men's soccer in the world. His father, George Weah, is a legendary Milan player awarded the Ballon d'Or in 1995, the best player in the world by FIFA and African Player of the Year. This paved the way for Timothy to learn soccer in the best clubs in the world.
Now, after two years playing for Juventus, he is taking on a new challenge soon as everything is going well in the negotiations with Nottingham Forest. On the other side, Tony Meoladoesn't think this is a great move for the striker, as Forest is not in the Champions League.
"I look at it from, 'you're leaving a side that is playing in the Champions League to go to a side that's playing in the Conference League,' right? I don't know that it's going to be as glorious. Look, Nottingham Forest up until the last two weeks of the season were fighting for a Champions League place. It was a magical run by them this season. I don't know that they can sustain that as a club," Meola said on CBS Sports.
The move might make sense for Weah, as he's not a starter at Juventus. On the other hand, he might be away from the UEFA Champions League for a while as Nottingham Forest will play in the Conference League.
Until the last round of the Premier League, the team would have played in Europe's biggest club competition, but lost to Chelsea in the last game of the season and fell behind Newcastle and Aston Villa .
Forest is looking to bring in many new players to give more depth to the Portuguese manager Nuno Espirito Santo, who's well known for his job with Wolverhampton. One of the best things he brought to the team was depth — any player could come in and change the game.
