CLEMSON — Clemson football quarterback Cade Klubnik said it was a "really cool moment" when he received a standing ovation from Tigers fans in the second quarter vs. Furman .
"It brought me to tears," Klubnik said.
Klubnik almost threw a deep touchdown pass to tight end Christian Bentancur of Clemson's Week 13 game vs. Furman on Nov. 22, but the pass was broken up.
Klubnik wanted one more attempt, but Clemson coach Dabo Swinney called the team's first timeout and pulled Klubnik for backup Christopher Vizzina .
Then, Vizzina hugged Klubnik, who began to receive hugs from other teammates and coaches and earned immense applause from Clemson fans in the final home game of his college career. Klubnik said he had no clue the ovation was going to happen.
An emotional Klubnik pointed to fans around Memorial Stadium, displaying appreciation of what they meant over his four-year career. He is ranked in the top five of numerous Clemson all-time stats, including passing touchdowns, passing yards and completions.
"Gave everything I have over the last four years, and there's been so many great moments and tough moments, too," Klubnik said. "Just to be able to walk off that field for the last time and have the support of everyone around, it meant a lot."
Klubnik helped Clemson make the College Football Playoff in 2024, which ended a three-year drought, and won two ACC championships to extend the Tigers' lead in the conference.
Klubnik was pulled with Clemson having a 24-0 lead.
Klubnik finished the game completing 9-of-15 passes for 159 yards and two touchdowns and rushing for negative-16 yards on two carries against Furman.
