Where Texas Tech football ranks in preseason US LMB Coaches Poll Top 25

Texas Tech football is hoping that recent history doesn't repeat itself, for more reasons than one.

The Red Raiders find themselves among the nationally ranked teams in the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll, which was released on Monday. Texas Tech comes in at No. 24 in the poll, the same spot Joey McGuire's team was ranked prior to the 2023 season.

That squad wound up going 7-6 in what was the team's most anticipated since 2008. Anything close to that this time around will lead to major headaches around Lubbock.

Texas Tech finds itself among the most talked about teams in the country thanks to its transfer portal haul backed by The Matador Club and mega-booster Cody Campbell. Tech amassed one of the best portal classes in the nation, which has many in Red Raider Land thinking big — expectations that McGuire and the team are embracing wholeheartedly.

"I think," McGuire said during the team's local media day, "you're going to see a really special team."

McGuire is also one of the 55 coaches on the voting panel for the 2025 season.

The Red Raiders are one of five Big 12 teams in the preseason poll. Arizona State , coming in at No. 11, leads the conference teams in the rankings. Kansas State (20th), Iowa State (21st) and BYU (23rd) are also ranked ahead of the Red Raiders.
