It's officially Week 1 in the college football season after a pretty entertaining first week with a few games in Week 0.
For the North Carolina Tar Heels , they will open up the season on Labor Day hosting TCU in primetime. It will mark the start of the Bill Belichick era in North Carolina as the hope is that they can turn it around after another disappointing year in 2024.
As we sit here about seven days from kickoff, USA TODAY Sports has released its initial bowl projections for the upcoming season. They have UNC facing a Big Ten program in the Pinstripe Bowl, matching them up with Minnesota.
That game is set for December 27th at Yankee Stadium and has the ACC-Big Ten tie in.
The two teams did meet in 2023 and 2024 with a home and away series that the Tar Heels swept. UNC opened the 2024 season at Minnesota, pulling off a win on the road. But the programs are both a little different now and it could be an intriguing matchup in Belichick's first season.
Obviously, these will change as the year goes on but it's a positive that a media outlet believes the Tar Heels will be bowl bound this year.
