Adley Rutschman is a late scratch from the Baltimore Orioles ' lineup for their Friday contest against the New York Yankees . New reports reveal the exact reason why he's receiving a second off-day in one week.

The 27-year-old catcher has been ruled out, as he is dealing with left abdominal tightness , according to Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports. It's not entirely clear what led to Adley Rutschman receiving the injury. Gary Sanchez is stepping in as catcher for the Orioles instead and will be batting sixth in the order.
"Rutschman scratched. Left abdominal tightness," Kubatko reported.
This comes just a couple of days after Rutschman had a night off on Wednesday. That break was reported as giving the Orioles' star a breather. So, the injury likely occurred either sometime on Thursday night or during warmups leading up to Friday's game against the Yankees.
More news regarding Adley Rutschman's injury will likely come to light in the coming days. For now, he's receiving another day off while the Orioles evaluate him further. A possible trip to the injured list is never out of the question, but we won't know any further details until any announcements are made.

Rutschman has been having a rocky season this year for the Orioles. He's arguably the best defensive catcher in baseball, but his presence at the plate is lacking right now. Through 242 at-bats so far this season, Adley Rutschman owns a .227 batting average (on pace to be a career-low) and .319 OBP while recording 55 hits, eight home runs, and 20 RBIs.
There's still plenty of time for the Orioles catcher to figure it out this season, though. Hopefully, the injury isn't too serious and he doesn't have to take a trip to the IL. But the beginning of the season has been a bit rough for Rutschman, so perhaps he can turn things around after the All-Star break in July.
