- Why Barrett Carter ran 40-yard dash at Clemson football Pro Day instead of NFL combine
CLEMSON — Linebacker Barrett Carter is Clemson football 's top prospect in the 2025 NFL Draft and revealed Thursday why he did not run the 40-yard dash at the NFL combine.
"I just talked to my agent, and it was something that he decided to just save for Pro Day," Carter said.

Carter ran the 40-yard dash on Thursday, logging 4.64 seconds. He also participated in the bench press (22 reps) and vertical jump (33 inches).
Carter was one of seven participants who attended Clemson 's Pro Day on campus and one of five players who worked out. At the NFL combine, he only participated in the vertical jump (34.5 inches), broad jump (9 feet, 8 inches) and 20-yard shuffle (4.41 seconds) and went through interviews with teams.
"After hearing what I ran today, I'm good with that." Carter said. "The tape speaks for itself. I think I can move pretty well, and (if you) turn on the film, you can see my speed. But, I'm definitely happy with what I ran today."
Carter, a two-time All-America selection, is projected to be a Day 2 or 3 pick, according to NFL mock drafts. He recorded 233 tackles, including 12.5 sacks, three interceptions and two forced fumbles over his four-year Clemson career.

Injury updates on Phil Mafah , Marcus Tate ahead of NFL draft
Running back Mafah and offensive lineman Marcus Tate did not participate in on-field drills on Thursday as both recover from offseason surgery. Mafah said he suffered a torn shoulder labrum against App State in Week 2 and didn't realize he was hurt until the NC State game in Week 4. He exceeded 1,000 yards rushing for the first time in his career but was limited in the final games of the 2024 season.
Offensive lineman Marcus Tate said he suffered MCL and MPFL injuries in his knee against Georgia in Week 1. He said he knew he injured it but played through it to showcase his toughness and give Clemson the best chance to win. He played 2,502 offensive snaps in 42 games over four seasons with the Tigers and added he plans to be limited in the NFL's offseason training activities and ready to go for fall camp.
