The Cincinnati Bengals tucked what feels like a big steal onto the practice squad last week when they signed offensive tackle Blake Freeland .
Freeland, as it turns out, had other options.
Speaking with Geoff Hobson of Bengals .com, the 6'7" Freeland said that he had other options, but ultimately chose Joe Burrow 's squad because of some of the guys on the staff.
"Scott Peters does a great job with his dudes," Freeland told Hobson. "I'd like to see how he rolls."
Those guys being offensive line coach Scott Peters and assistant Mike McCarthy, two guys with more than proven track records who have a knack for handling and developing the massive tackles ( Amarius Mims 6'8", 350 pounds, Orlando Brown 6'8", 350 pounds) the Bengals prefer.
Recent waiver wire claim Myles Hinton (6'6", 323) is probably pretty happy, too.
Considering Freeland's wicked athleticism and obvious upside, it was pretty apparent he would have had other offers around the NFL. But the coaching staff and the probable Joe Burrow effect moved things in the Bengals' favor and boosted what was a shaky-looking depth situation.
