The San Francisco Giants have had a great deal of struggles so far during the 2026 season. Those struggles continued on Saturday, as the Giants narrowly avoided a brutal franchise record. The Giants lost to the Tampa Bay Rays , 5-1.
“The San Francisco Giants elude a franchise record 8th shutout in their first 32 games, but lose once again, 5-1 to Tampa Bay , and drop to 13-19. They have lost all 5 games on this road and have yet to hit a HR,” USA Today columnist Bob Nightengale posted to X, formerly Twitter.
The frustrations spilled over for the Giants on Saturday. Multiple personnel were ejected after a controversial play. San Francisco thought they had a home run from Heliot Ramos , but the crew chief called it an out after a review.
An assistant coach and Giants pitcher Adrian Houser were ejected after the review . The Giants argued that the ball hit a catwalk at Tropicana Field, but the officials rejected that argument.
That call definitely left a sour taste in the Giants’ mouths.
“You want to feel like you can overcome anything,’’ said team manager Tony Vitello, per MLB.com. “Having said that, the extra energy out of our dugout is understandable [after being shut out on Friday]. Our guys definitely listen way more than I do to the quote-unquote noise you hear about however many shutouts it has been. You’re dying for a run. … So scoring first or scoring in general is going to affect confidence.’’
Vitello wants his team to move on . San Francisco is looking for wins, after losing seven of the last 10 games.
“Regardless of where we stand here going into [Sunday], you’ve got to believe you make your own breaks,’’ Vitello said. “If you keep doing things the right way … things are going to work out a high percent of the time for you.’’
The Giants and Rays play again Sunday.
