Texas A&M enters Week 10 rested after a bye, now in position to play "spoiler" in the remaining four games this season, starting with a Saturday night road game at South Carolina in Columbia. Entering the week as a seven-point underdog, both programs are on separate trajectories, especially the Gamecocks, who have reeled off three consecutive wins.
The Aggies' lone SEC win against Arkansas tells you everything you need to know about Mike Elko's expensive roster that has underperformed, especially the play of senior quarterback Marcel Reed, who has thrown eight interceptions in four starts compared to just eight touchdowns, while Elko continues to back the second-year starter.
One of the team's lone bright spots, freshman running back KJ Edwards , now leads the team in rushing and, after suffering a deep leg contusion during the 31-20 road loss to Alabama, the former five-star prospect said Tuesday that he is healthy and ready to roll against the Gamecocks.
However, Wednesday's first SEC Availability Report listed KJ Edwards as "questionable," along with sophomore linebacker Noah Mikhail, as both players have a 50% chance to play on Saturday. This is likely precautionary, knowing that any chance the Aggies have of pulling off the upset requires both players to perform at a high level.
We will continue to monitor both players' status heading into Saturday's 2:00 p.m. kickoff, which will air on ESPN.
