2019 NFL re-draft: Changing the Giants' selection of Oshane Ximines

The 2019 NFL draft presented the New York Giants ' front office with an opportunity to select defensive end Maxx Crosby in the later rounds. Instead, the Giants chose defensive end Oshane Ximines with the No. 95 overall pick in the third round.

Ximines spent five seasons with the Giants from 2019 to 2023. However, the New York native started only nine of the 48 games he played for the team. He concluded his Giants tenure—and his NFL career—with 6.5 sacks and 24 quarterback hits.

The Giants passed on the chance to draft from a strong 2019 class that included a pair of standout performers—one of them a defensive end—instead of selecting Ximines.

Top pick in hindsight: DE Maxx Crosby

  • Selected by the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders with the No. 106 overall pick (fourth round).

Crosby remained available when the Giants made their selection at No. 95. The then-Oakland Raiders ultimately took him at No. 106. He recorded 10.0 sacks in his rookie season alone. Now 28, the Michigan native is widely regarded as one of the NFL's top defensive ends. He has earned two second-team All-Pro honors in his career and finished fourth in AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year voting in 2023.

Other players of note

Another notable player the Giants could have drafted was linebacker Quincy Williams, now with the New York Jets (and recently signed by the Cleveland Browns as of 2026). The Murray State product earned first-team All-Pro recognition in 2023 while playing for the Jets.
