Stop me if you've heard this one before: the 2027 NFL Draft is being deemed generational, and we are still a year out. It's not only the top-end proven talent, but there are a massive number of big-time recruits in this class, too. One of the five-star prospects in this class is Nebraska edge Williams Nwaneri .
While we haven't seen much from Nwaneri, could 2026 be his breakout year?
-
Height: 6'7"
-
Weight: 265 lbs
-
Recruiting rank: Five-star recruit, no. 2 DL nationally in 2024
-
Hometown: Lee's Summit, Missouri
-
Games watched: Michigan , Michigan State , UCLA
We are seeing a trend among college pass rushers: twitched-up athletes. Williams Nwaneri fits the bill and then some. He has special get-off and seems to glide into the backfield with ease. Great frame, massive wingspan, and good speed-to-power that grants him the ability to be multidimensional. He generates quality pressure and needs to convert it into production to be taken more seriously with his draft stock. Motor runs hot more often than not.
We just need to see more from Nwaneri, and we should see that in 2026. I will usually lean towards five-star defensive players, figuring it out, but the consistency needs to be better. He may benefit from another season in college after this, but should he have a coming-out party and turn in a ten-sack season or better, look for him to be in consideration for a top-five edge spot in the 2027 NFL Draft.
