- 2027 NFL Draft Summer Scouting Report: Gavin Sawchuk, RB, Northwestern
Summer is here, sort of, and it is everyone's favorite time of the year, scouting time. Every year, we do Summer Scouting to preview college football for Vikings fans, but also give them an idea of names to follow and watch in the fall as needs pop up for Minnesota .
Are we going to write about quarterbacks? Offensive tackles? Edge rushers? You know it, but why? Because other NFL teams will draft them, just as they will draft every other position. It all matters whether these players end up on the Vikings , the Bears , or the Steelers . We write these so Vikings fans can be the most informed fans.

Player Summary
Gavin Sawchuk is a fun piece in the backfield for a team that needs it in Northwestern. They made some moves in the transfer portal to improve their offense. The signing of Sawchuk could provide some benefits that are being overlooked. He is a bruiser of a runner, so he will fit in perfectly in the Big Ten, but he also flashes some moments of brilliance as an athlete. He doesn't blow your socks off with his ability, but he is a reliable piece and could be one in the NFL to be involved in a backfield rotation or at the goal line.
