- 2028 EDGE Asa Burch Commits To The University Of Notre Dame

Notre Dame was expecting to have a big recruiting weekend as they were hosting the No. 1 team in the country tonight. This afternoon, they picked up a commitment from Warren G Harding edge rusher Asa Burch in the 2028 class. Burch is a consensus four-star recruit and is ranked as the No. 36 player in the country according to Rivals/On3.
Burch is a 6-3, 220-pound edge rusher who was highly sought after in the 2028 recruiting cycle. The Ohio native held offers from Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan, Pitt and several other big-time P4 Midwest football programs. Burch has really taken off statistically during his junior year of high school and has put up some big numbers along the way.
This season, Burch recorded 71 total tackles, 11.0 tackles for loss, 5.0 sacks, two interceptions and three passes defended. He's now the 4th commitment in the 2028 class which is starting to really take form. Burch is the third defensive player to commit to Notre Dame joining Illinois edge rusher Darieon Prescottand safety Andre Jones from Florida. Tennessee kicker Owen Davies is also in the class.
The Warren, Ohio native is ranked as the No. 6 edge rusher in the country according to Rivals/On3 and the No. 3 player in the state. ESPN has him ranked as the No. 150 player in the country while 247Sports has him ranked as the No. 107 player in the country. He's a very twitchy edge player that has the ability to get after the passer and be stout against the run. He'll fit in extremely well with what Charlie Partridge wants on his defensive line. Since his arrival, Partridge has been rolling and it's looking like that will continue into the 2028 class.
Burch has high-level college football and NFL lineage. His father, Alfie Burch, was a wide receiver and defensive back for the Michigan Wolverines from 1989 to 1993. After his collegiate career, he signed with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 1994 and played in the Canadian Football League as well.
Notre Dame has stacked together several impressive recruiting classes since the arrival of head coach Marcus Freeman and the 2028 class is looking to continue adding to that resume. In 2026, they brought in the No. 1 ranked recruiting class in the country while their 2027 class currently ranks 3rd in the country according to 247Sports only behind the Miami Hurricanes and the Texas A&M Aggies.
