A chain is only as strong as the links that hold it together. For the Miami Marlins , building a sustained contender requires the organization to continuously forge and integrate those links
For president of baseball operations Peter Bendix 's blueprint to blossom- developing high-upside young talent and maintaining a deep organizational pipeline is the top priority. Right now? It's all about finding fresh faces capable of supporting the major-league club for years to come. And there's plenty already in the organization to like.

Three standout hitters who led their respective affiliates in batting average during the 2026 season offer a compelling look into that developmental process: Deyvison De Los Santos at Triple-A Jacksonville, Brandon Compton—ranked as Miami's No. 13 prospect—at Double-A Pensacola, and Colby Shade at High-A Beloit. Each prospect represents a distinct, vital piece of Miami's long-term architectural plans.
While their individual paths and player profiles differ significantly, each player possesses a unique skill set capable of strengthening the chain as the Marlins transition toward 2027 and beyond.
De Los Santos: Powering the chain
At Triple-A Jacksonville, De Los Santos consistently demonstrated why his raw power and middle-of-the-order potential remain so intriguing to organizational decision-makers. The slugging first baseman posted a .277 batting average, launching 21 home runs and driving in 70 RBI across 102 games for the Jumbo Shrimp. His performance provided a persistent reminder of the impact bat he could ultimately bring to loanDepot park.

The primary hurdle remaining for De Los Santos is translating that upper-minors production into consistent success at the Major League level. In his brief opportunities with the big-league club, upper-tier pitching has exposed specific areas in his offensive approach that require further refinement—most notably expanding his zone coverage and adjusting to elite spin and velocity.
Nevertheless, elite, game-changing power is a rare commodity that cannot be easily taught, and De Los Santos already possesses it in abundance. If he can refine his plate discipline and make the necessary adjustments to stabilize his overall consistency, he has the ceiling to become an indispensable middle-of-the-order link in Miami's emerging lineup.
Compton: An award-winning connection
Few prospects elevated their standing within the system more dramatically than Brandon Compton , who earned the Marlins' prestigious 2026 Minor League Player of the Year honors following a dominant campaign.

During his tenure with Double-A Pensacola, the powerful outfielder posted a dominant .332 batting average alongside 21 home runs, 54 RBI, and an astounding 1.180 OPS across 50 games, forcing a swift promotion to Triple-A Jacksonville. By season's end, Compton's complete numbers spanned three minor-league levels, yielding an extraordinary 36 home runs and 103 RBI.
Compton's impressive blend of natural power, advanced hitting mechanics, and strong run-producing instincts gives Miami a potential cornerstone for its future batting order. His immediate objective will be demonstrating that his prolific production can withstand the rigors of Triple-A as he nears his Major League debut.
Shade: Another link in the making
Further down the pipeline, center fielder Colby Shade turned in a highly encouraging offensive campaign. At High-A Beloit, Shade batted .279 with nine home runs, 35 RBI, and 34 stolen bases in 66 games. His elite ability to work counts and reach base—evidenced by his .377 on-base percentage and .833 OPS—highlighted a dynamic, multi-faceted offensive game. Shade later earned a promotion to Double-A Pensacola, where he immediately made his mark by adding a home run during their postseason push.

Shade provides a distinct element compared to the power-centric profiles above him. His top-of-the-order potential, game-changing speed on the basepaths, and strong defensive profile in center field afford him a high floor as he advances through the Marlins' farm system.
Constructing a perennial contender is rarely the result of a single breakthrough prospect or a lone successful draft class; it demands a continuous series of developmental victories across all levels, with each prospect developing into a reliable contributor.
De Los Santos offers raw power, Compton brings award-winning offensive production, and Shade contributes elite athleticism and table-setting skills. While no minor-league path comes with guarantees, each player represents an essential link in the organizational chain Miami is systematically assembling.
As these core prospects continue their rapid progression toward the Majors, the entire organization moves forward with them. The stronger and deeper that internal chain becomes, the faster the Marlins can pull themselves back into sustained Major League contention.
