The Boston Red Sox hoped Caleb Durbin would be adequate at third base for them.

Instead, he got off to a nightmare start at the plate this season, making everyone really miss Alex Bregman .

Durbin may come around, but his bat may not be enough for a Red Sox lineup that could probably use another thumper in the order.

The Athletic's Jim Bowden believes a trade could be coming.

"I’m not sure they’re going to get enough offense — specifically from their infield — to get back to the postseason," Bowden wrote as part of a new article on Monday. "I believe there is pressure on the front office to find another impact bat to help lengthen the lineup, preferably a third baseman."

Bowden then lists three options.

"I like Caleb Durbin, don’t get me wrong, but I like him more as a utility player than an everyday player," Bowden writes. "Perhaps a trade with the Astros for Isaac Paredes or the Twins for Royce Lewis (once he’s healthy again) would work? Or a deal for a younger option, like the Nationals’ Brady House?"

Paredes could get squeezed out of a job a bit in Houston once everyone is healthy, but he's got a pull-happy swing that would enjoy the Green Monster.

Lewis is seemingly never healthy, but there's talent there.

House is a fascinating idea, because he'd have long-term club control and be able to develop in Boston. He wouldn't just be a short-term solution.

Whatever the Red Sox do, it appears there's starting to be a vibe that they have to do  something.  So stay tuned for whatever might come next.
