Green Bay needs these pieces to step up, because that's a key part of the front office's plan to replace players who left.
The Green Bay Packers have had some intriguing practices through the first two weeks of training camp, including Friday's family night. Three young players in particular have performed at a high level and put themselves in position to compete for bigger roles, change perceptions, and have real impact on the Packers' 2026 roster .
The first name on this list is a player most fans might not even know. Defensive tackle Anthony Campbell is not a cornerstone of his position group, but he has been impressive in training camp, especially with the second-team defense. The type of performances he has strung together throughout practice could eventually earn him reps with the starters down the road and put him in position to compete for one of those final roster spots.
The Packers invested heavily in the defensive line this offseason, signing Javon Hargrave, extending Devonte Wyatt, and drafting Chris McClellan in the third round. Depth remains a consideration, though, because Green Bay lost Kenny Clark, T.J. Slayton, and Colby Wooden at the position over the past two seasons. If Campbell can establish himself as at least a potential practice squad player or even a rotational defensive lineman, that would be a meaningful development for the front of the defense.
The second player is also an upfront defender: edge rusher Barryn Sorrell. A fourth-round pick last year, Sorrell barely played as a rookie, but he did start against the Minnesota Vikings in a meaningless Week 18 game where the Packers sat their starters. He played reasonably well in that spot.
Now, Sorrell is expected to start the first few games
of the regular season while Micah Parsons remains out recovering from his ACL injury. And the early returns from camp have been encouraging. Sorrell has generated pressure consistently, recorded would-be sacks in practice settings, and even had a pick-six after reading a broken play and intercepting quarterback Jordan Love.
Without Parsons down the stretch last season, the Packers weren't able to generate much pressure. Sorrell could give the defense the juice it desperately needs in those early weeks. Lukas Van Ness is still expected to be the primary edge rusher, but Sorrell now projects as the starter opposite him. And even when Parsons returns, having a legitimate third rotational edge defender is important for defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon's scheme.
The third name is left tackle Jordan Morgan, a former first-round pick
in 2024 who changed positions throughout his first two NFL seasons. Morgan played primarily at guard early in his career, then shifted to right tackle late last season after Zach Bako-Bewele injured his knee.
Morgan is now expected to be a full-time left tackle. That's how he has practiced through camp, and he has looked good during the early sessions. For a player who has bounced around the offensive line, settling into one spot at a premium position could be the development that unlocks his long-term value for the Packers.
