4 Patriots players crack top 50 free agent signings of 2026 list

How successful have the New England Patriots been in free agency thus far?

According to Sports Illustrated’s Eva Geitheim, Mike Kadlick and Karl Rasmussen, the Patriots ’ additions of Alijah Vera-Tucker (No. 16), Romeo Doubs (No. 23), Kevin Byard (No. 26) and Dre’Mont Jones (No. 40) were all ranked among the top 50 free agent signings of 2026.

Vera-Tucker, when healthy, is regarded as a premier right guard in the NFL. The problem is, he missed the entire 2025 NFL season due to injury. When last seen in 2024, Vera-Tucker allowed just one sack and eight total pressures as a member of the New York Jets .

Jaylinn Hawkins ’ status as an unrestricted free agent in 2026 necessitated that the Patriots search for a potential replacement for their former starting safety. New England signed Byard to a one-year, $7 million deal, giving them a First-Team All-Pro honoree from 2025 to ward off the field in the secondary next season. The NFL’s leader in interceptions in 2025 came at a great value for the Patriots.

The addition of Doubs was the response to Stefon Diggs ’ release, as Byard was for Hawkins' departure in free agency. Doubs gave New England a new leading receiver in the open market. He went for 724 receiving yards and six touchdowns in 2025 with the Green Bay Packers .

New England also needed another relentless pass rusher on the edge this offseason. The Patriots looked to Jones, giving the Ohio native a hefty payday in free agency with a three-year deal worth $36.5 million. Jones registered a career-high seven sacks last season.
