The San Francisco 49ers' bye week is over, and they returned to practice on Wednesday. With a 6-1 record, things are looking rosy for them, but they're still dealing with injuries to key players.
Wide receivers Mike Evans (Achilles), Deebo Samuel Sr. (hamstring), Demarcus Robinson (ankle) and De'Zhaun Stribling (ankle) missed their last game on Oct. 25, which was a 29-20 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. Star running back Christian McCaffrey also suffered a mild hamstring strain during that game, and defensive end Nick Bosa wasn't able to return from a calf injury, despite previously being confident he would be able to play.
As far as injuries were concerned, it was a mixed bag for the Niners on Wednesday.
Two key players could be nearing a return
Per 49ers Webzone, Evans, McCaffrey, Samuel, safety Siran Neal and left tackle Trent Williams didn't take part in practice on Wednesday. However, McCaffrey sounds confident that he can play this Sunday versus the Las Vegas Raiders.
"It wasn't too bad," McCaffrey said. "I think having the bye week was awesome. Now, I feel great."
Head coach Kyle Shanahan gave what sounded like a somewhat hopeful update on Evans.
"I think we've made a lot of progress," Shanahan said, per Nick Wagoner of ESPN . "I think he's going in the right direction and it's something we definitely got to be smart with, but we're not going to overly do it. We just want to wait till he's healthy and he's still working his way to get there."
Williams, meanwhile, had a veteran rest day.
Bosa and Robinson returned to practice on Wednesday as limited participants, and wide receiver Christian Kirk (knee), linebackers Luke Gifford (groin) and Garret Wallow (hamstring), cornerbacks Nate Hobbs (groin) and cornerback Upton Stout (shoulder) and safety Marques Sigle (ankle) were also limited participants.
Robinson and Hobbs had their practice windows opened this week. Robinson hasn't played since Week 2, and Hobbs hasn't played at all this season.
Having Robinson and Evans back this Sunday would be a big shot in the arm for the Niners offensively, and if Bosa returns, they will be able to pressure Raiders veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins and challenge his limited mobility.
