49ers picked as top destination for 2,800-yard free agent RB

Heading into the offseason, the San Francisco 49ers have several players who are set to hit free agency and who could leave the team with holes at key positions heading into 2026.

Among those who could leave is running back Brian Robinson Jr., who is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the start of the new league year.

If Robinson does leave, the 49ers may decide to find a replacement for him in free agency, and with that in mind, Pro Football Focus's Nathan Jahnke has identified San Francisco as a top landing spot for Allgeier.

"Allgeier would be an excellent fit," Jahnke wrote. "His upside will be limited wherever he lands because he hasn’t provided much in the passing game. San Francisco will give him the best opportunity to succeed, given their scheme and quality run blocking."

Allgeier, 25, played collegiately at BYU from 2018-21, earning All-American honors in his final season before the Atlanta Falcons took him in the fifth round (No. 151 overall) in the 2022 NFL draft.

Over the last four years, Allgeier has played in 67 of 68 possible games, rushing for 2,876 yards and 18 touchdowns on 4.3 yards per attempt. He also caught 61 passes for 516 yards and two scores.

If Robinson (and Patrick Taylor ) leave in free agency, the 49ers will be left with Christian McCaffrey , Isaac Guerendo and Jordan James . While that's a solid trio, they could certainly use another capable back in the stable.
