The San Francisco 49ers are making some salary cap space this spring.
The team reportedly converted $3.02 million of center Jake Brendel 's 2026 contract into a signing bonus, according to Spotrac , which cleared around $2.265 million of cap space. The restructure means Brendal will cost $3.14 million against the cap in 2026, with a $3.6 million cap hit in 2027 that is a void year.
Brendel is expected to remain the 49ers' starting center in 2026 with his new contract. He's started his past 34 games with San Francisco , including 15 in 2025. Brendel missed Weeks 8 and 9 this past season after not missing a game in his previous three seasons with the team.
Brendel joined the 49ers in 2021 after time with the Dallas Cowboys , Miami Dolphins , Denver Broncos and Baltimore Ravens .
With the move, the 49ers are expected to have around $69.9 million in salary cap space for the 2026 season.
