- 5 Super Sleeper Pirates Prospects to Watch Next Year

There's no question that Pittsburgh Pirates fans are excited to see how top prospects like Seth Hernandez , Edward Florentino , Murf Gray , and Derek Curiel will perform in 2027. Not only are they four of the Pirates' best prospects, but they also rank among the top 100 prospects. However, digging deep in the Pirates' farm system reveals some interesting names, ones you won't find on any Pirates prospect list. The job today is to highlight some super-sleeper Pirates prospects fans should have on their radar next year.

Felix Doroteo joined the Pirates system when they traded veteran right-hander Jose Urquidy to the Chicago White Sox at the 2026 trade deadline, ending what was a poor tenure in Pittsburgh . He pitched 20 innings between the White Sox's Florida Complex League affiliate and A-Ball Bradenton this year, posting a 4.05 ERA and striking out 30.8% of batters, but also handing out a free pass 12.5% of the time.
Doroeto has some interesting characteristics . He stands at a towering 6'6″, 195 pounds. His tall frame gives him above-average extension at 6.6 feet. Doroeto also throws hard, with his sinker clocked at upwards of 99 MPH. He will also mix in a slider/cutter variant. Command is his biggest question mark, and getting him to repeat his delivery better will help improve that. However, he already has the foundation of a future quality reliever. He should open 2027, his age-22 campaign, at Bradenton next year.
Ronaldo Gallo has had a rough start to his pro career, as a myriad of injuries have slowed his progress. An undrafted free agent in 2023, Gallo did not throw a single pitch in the minor leagues until 2025. Unfortunately, he only faced two batters before landing on the injured list once again. The right-hander didn't reappear in pro ball again until this year, when he pitched 17.2 innings across three levels of the Pirates' minor league system.
While Gallo hasn't had an extended look in the minor leagues yet and will be in his age-26 season next year, he flashed some impressive stuff this year in the minor leagues. Gallo's fastball sat at 97 MPH with average induced vertical break (14.1 inches) and elite arm-side run (15.4 inches). He also mixes in a slider, cutter, and change-up, all of which look like quality offerings. Another right-hander who stands at 6'6″, Gallo's stuff also plays up because of his 6.7 feet of extension off the mound. A fully healthy season from Gallo could establish his potential as a future back-end reliever.
The Pirates drafted Eddie King Jr . out of the University of Louisville in the 16th round of the 2025 draft. The outfielder ended his college career on a strong note, going yard 17 times with a 148 wRC+ in his final college season. So far, King Jr. has started off his pro career on the right foot. In 492 plate appearances between Bradenton and Greensboro, King Jr. batted .265/.422/.405 with a .399 wOBA and 126 wRC+. He spent most of the season at Bradenton.
King Jr. also had quality peripherals. He walked at an outstanding 19.1% rate. Of all minor league players who appeared in at least 100 games, he had the 15th-best walk percentage. He also didn't show much swing-and-miss either. King Jr. struck out at 20.5% with a 78.4% contact rate and a whiff rate below 25% at Bradenton. Next year is his age-24 season.
Kyler Fedko has the most prospect notoriety on today's list. He once ranked as the Minnesota Twins' 25th best prospect going into the 2026 season by Baseball America. Fedko also appeared in 14 MLB games this past season. However, a leg injury that resulted in a torn ACL, MCL, and LCL ended his season early.
When healthy, Fedko has hit very well against minor league pitching. This year, he slashed .274/.362/.545 for the Twins' Triple-A affiliate. He hit 17 home runs in just 307 plate appearances. He also walked 11.1% of the time and struck out at a 22.8% rate. Overall, he had a 128 wRC+. Fedko also fell just two home runs shy of a 30/30 season in 2025. Fedko can play all three outfield positions, as well as first base.
The Pirates acquired Titus Dumitru from the Atlanta Braves in 2025 for right-handed reliever Hunter Stratton . The Braves' 2024 16th-round pick, Dumitru, did not overly impress in 2026. He slashed .240/.329/.416 with a .333 wOBA and 97 wRC+ at Double-A Altoona. Dumitru hit for some power, with 15 home runs and a .177 isolated slugging percentage. The outfielder also walked at a 10.2% rate, with a 23% strikeout percentage.
While Dumitru's bottom line was mostly pedestrian, Baseball America likes his underlying profile . According to them, his chase rate was just 21.2% this year. He wasn't an overly patient batter either, swinging at pitches in the heart of the zone 75% of the time. Dumtiru has shown above-average raw power, with exit velocity just north of 91 MPH. Lifting the ball more often will be his key to long-term success.
