- 5 things you might've missed in UND's 42-35 win over Indiana State
Sep. 26—TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — The Fighting Hawks held off a late rally from Indiana State on Saturday in a 42-35 victory at Memorial Stadium.
Here are five things you might've missed during the game.

UND needed to battle through injuries offensively.
The Fighting Hawks started the game without tight ends Haydn Stay, Aidan Behymer and Hunter Kallstrom.
Then during the game, UND lost offensive linemen Liam Becher and Ayden Teeter . Late in the game, the Fighting Hawks also lost wide receiver Caleb Goodloe .
Becher was wearing a protective boot on the sideline after his injury. Former offensive line starter Caleb Olson entered the game after Becher's injury.
"I haven't been able to sit down and talk (to the trainers) yet," UND head coach Eric Schmidt said. "Goodloe I'm a little bit concerned about just listening to where our trainers are at right now. I'm not sure with Becher at all. Teeter has been battling an ankle from all the way at our first scrimmage in the fall.

"Some important people there. Those are some guys who have been really, really productive for us here this year and in the past, too."
Goodloe finished with six catches for 62 yards.
UND was able to build its original lead in the second half with big performances from quarterback Jerry Kaminski on third down.
Kaminski's best play of the day came on third-and-8 from the 50 in the third quarter. With pressure in the backfied, Kaminski rolled to his right, and a split-second before stepping to the sideline, he fired a pass to Korey Tai, who tip-toed the sideline for a 22-yard pickup. Four plays later, Kaminski ran a quarterback sneak into the end zone for a 35-21 lead.

Early in the fourth quarter, Kaminski was facing third-and-10 from the UND 33. He was able to find Caleb Goodloe up the sideline for a 28-yard gain.
One play later, Kaminski went deep to Cameron Weir , who caught his second touchdown of the game for a 42-21 lead with 9:37 left.
"I saw the safety roll down, and I knew it was a one-on-one with a corner, and I was like 'I've got to win,'" said Weir, a first-year transfer from Washington State . "This is my ball. Jerry threw it, and I just made a play."
UND did some shuffling at safety.
Starter Avery Dixon didn't travel to Indiana State with an injury, so the Fighting Hawks started Grant Tylutki, who had been playing the nickel position previously.

UND also utilized Jy Martin at safety. Martin, a starter all of last season, hasn't played this year as he seeks an additional season of eligibility from the NCAA.
Martin received a temporary restraining order against the NCAA from the Grand Forks County District Court earlier in the week, allowing him to play against the Sycamores.
"Rusty," Schmidt said of his impressions of Martin so far. "I just think he's got some work to do to get back to where he was at. I did think it was good to get him back out there, just give him a taste. He knows he's rusty. He's coming off, and he's like, hey man, I've got to do a better job there."
The only running success UND's offense found against the Sycamores was through Kaminski, who finished with 18 carries for 86 yards and two touchdowns.

Griffin Broderick, who started the season as UND's fourth option in the backfield, led the running backs with 11 carries for 39 yards.
Charles Langama had five carries for 19 yards, while Matt Lawson had six carries for 7 yards.
"We still have to run the football better," Schmidt said. "A lot of different guys playing (on the offensive line) today. I feel like the guys up front have got to be able to do a better job of being on the same page. We'll look at the tape. Our backs have some competition there, too."
Schmidt said Langama was limited by a shoulder injury.
UND's special teams were a struggle against Indiana State.

Kicker Kenten Laughmann missed a 40-yard field goal with UND looking to go up 17 points in the second half. He also kicked two balls out of bounds on kickoffs late in the game, allowing the Sycamores to start at the 35.
UND also failed to capture an onside kick despite calling a timeout before the play to make sure the team's hands team was on the field.
On the onside kick, wide receiver Deng Deng sat back on the bounding ball and Indiana State was able to snare the kick.
UND punter Luke Silvernale also averaged just 41.8 yards on five punts, despite a 56-yard punt among the attempts.
