- 6 takeaways from UND's 85-50 loss to Minnesota
Nov. 3—GRAND FORKS — UND opened its three-game road trip with an 85-50 loss to Minnesota in Minneapolis on Monday night.
The Fighting Hawks will take on Winthrop in Rock Hill, S.C., this Saturday before closing the road trip against Clemson on Nov. 9.
Here are six takeaways from the defeat.
Jayden Moore, a three-star freshman point guard from Hopkins, Minn., had a very promising debut for the Hawks.
Moore led the Hawks with 13 points and finished with the most shot attempts, shooting 6-for-14 from the field.
He logged 22 minutes, also tallying a pair of assists, a steal and three rebounds.
The Hawks' stellar turnover margin last season played a big role in their third-place finish in the Summit League and subsequent run to the tournament championship.
UND, which led the Summit League with a plus-4.51 turnover margin last year, lost the turnover battle by four against the Gophers.
The Hawks finished with 13 turnovers to Minnesota's nine.
To be fair, a Big Ten opponent isn't the best measuring stick for UND's defense, especially in the first game of the season.
UND shot just 3-for-28 from 3-point range against the Gophers.
Even senior guard Zach Kraft, who shot 39.9% from deep last season, went 1-for-8 against Minnesota.
None of the Hawks made more than one 3-point shot. Kraft, junior guard Luke Winkel and freshman guard Sage Hanson each made one triple.
Tyler Wagner went 0-for-6 from the field and 0-for-4 from 3-point range. The sophomore transfer guard shot 38.6% from deep at Austin Peay last year.
Senior guard Samuel Hincapie, Moore and senior forward Andrija Radojević each shot 0-for-3 from beyond the arc.
Moore wasn't the only freshman who logged heavy minutes against the Gophers.
Carter Evanson, a freshman guard who was named North Dakota Mr. Basketball for the 2025-26 season while playing at Horace, played 25 minutes on Monday. Kraft was the only other Hawk to play at least 25 minutes.
Evanson scored five points, shooting 2-for-3 from the field. He also tallied three rebounds, an assist and a block.
UND might have another solid Euro on its hands this season.
Radojević, a 6-foot-8 forward from Kruševac, Serbia, scored 10 points in the season opener.
Aside from Moore, he was the only Hawk who finished with a double-digit point total.
Radojević shot 3-for-7 from the field and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line.
Zack Parks, a JUCO transfer from Mid Michigan College, scored four points in his Division I debut.
The sophomore guard from Lake Orion, Mich, made an impact beyond scoring, though. Parks led UND with six rebounds, also adding on two assists and three steals with no turnovers.
