Philadelphia 76ers head coach Nick Nurse continues to give Joel Embiid flowers for battling through injuries throughout the playoffs, despite losing their second-round series against the New York Knicks in a 4-0 sweep. The Knicks closed out the 76ers ’ season in Game 4’s 144-114 win.
Nurse commended Embiid for battling through a right ankle sprain and a hip injury during his postgame media availability, per PHLY Sports’ Kyle Neubeck.
“I commend him, man, he worked his ass off to get out there and play,” Nurse said. “He certainly was trending upward toward the end of the Boston series…obviously, he gets the hip/ankle injury that took him out a game, and I don’t think he ever got back to where he was trending.”
Joel Embiid led the 76ers with 24 points, five rebounds, and four assists.
Nick Nurse gives 76ers’ Joel Embiid credit for playoff push
Returning in Game 3 after missing Game 2 due to an ankle and hip injury, 76ers’ Embiid was cleared to play the Knicks with Philly’s season on the line. Despite Embiid’s return to the series coming in a losing effort against the Knicks, 76ers head coach Nick Nurse gave Joel credit for suiting up.
Playing through the pain, Embiid was effective on both ends of the floor, which, for Nurse, is a testament to Embiid’s effort with the stakes at their highest .
“I thought he gave us everything he could. I really do. I think he tried to give us everything he could tonight, and that’s all he could do,” Nurse said after losing Game 3.
Embiid went a perfect 8-for-8 from the floor, including a pair of threes, and made 6-for-7 free-throw attempts.
