801 Appearances Gone: Inter's Veteran Core Breaks Up as Four Exit
Inter Milan have officially confirmed the departures of goalkeeper Yann Sommer and defenders Francesco Acerbi , Matteo Darmian and Stefan de Vrij , with all four leaving the Nerazzurri as free agents following the expiry of their contracts.
The club announced the exits via official farewell communications, as reported by Gazzetta dello Sport , with individual tributes highlighting Sommer's composure and build-up contribution and Acerbi's leadership in knockout football.

The news carries weight beyond routine contract administration. The four players collectively span 34 to 38 years of age and accumulated 801 club appearances between them, forming a significant portion of the experienced core that drove Inter's recent domestic and European campaigns.
End of an Era in Defence and Goal
De Vrij's exit is the most symbolically significant in terms of tenure – the Dutch centre-back arrived from Lazio in 2018 and spent eight seasons at the club. He has already agreed a move to Panathinaikos. Acerbi joined in 2022, also from Lazio, while Darmian first arrived on loan from Parma six years ago before cementing himself as a dependable squad option.
The exits were not a surprise. Nicolò Schira reported in January that Sommer, Darmian and De Vrij were all available on the market as free agents from July, and as SempreInter reported in June, Inter had already opened talks on defensive reinforcements with De Vrij's future effectively settled.

The rebuild under Cristian Chivu is now firmly in motion. Inter have been linked with Mile Svilar and Guglielmo Vicario as goalkeeping options, and the pursuit of Evan Ndicka underscores the urgency of reshaping the back line. The broader transfer budget and target list will define how quickly those gaps are addressed ahead of the new season.
