The San Antonio Spurs watched history unfold twice against the Portland Trail Blazers . One came from a team perspective in erasing a new double-digit deficit. De'Aaron Fox became responsible for the other mark in this NBA Playoffs rout Sunday.
Fox delivered this first time stat line for a guard in Spurs history: 28 points, six rebounds, seven assists, and two blocked shots.
He hit those marks for a franchise known for producing stellar guards…a la Tony Parker , Manu Ginobili and George "Iceman" Gervin.
The latter legendary Spurs guard became renown for the finger roll layup. Fox, though, executed this wicked cyclone move:
Fox shared the scoring load with Victor Wembanyama, Stephon Castle and Devin Vassell as all four reached double figures. But head coach Mitch Johnson handed Fox this sentiment after the game .
"I thought this was his best game as a Spur," Johnson told reporters afterward.
That's a huge statement for a guard averaging 18.6 points per game with San Antonio and 20 during the postseason. Yet Wemby handed Fox similar praise too after the game.
"He makes the game fun. He facilitates a lot. Whether it's his playmaking or his scoring," Wembanyama told reporters after the game.
Fox sparked the comeback charge. He nailed a floater as the second quarter buzzer sounded off. Then pierced the dagger in further during the fourth quarter by dropping 11 in the final 12 minutes.
The former Sacramento Kings star isn't just actively scoring. He's endured physical moments too, including chipping Deni Avdija's tooth in Game 3 . But he's proving to be worth the massive four-year, $229 million deal he signed in Aug. 2025.
