The Pittsburgh Steelers faced a tough decision, including the future of Penn State quarterback Drew Allar. Allar, who was selected in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft, was expected to be on the Steelers' 53-man roster.
That was confirmed last weekend when the Steelers announced that he, along with three other quarterbacks, made the roster.
Plenty of questions remained about what the Steelers wanted to do with their four quarterbacks. Aaron Rodgers, the guaranteed starter, really seemed like the only guarantee.
At the same time, having a guy like Allar on the team seemed to make a lot of sense given when they drafted him. Regarding Will Howard and Mason Rudolph, that's where things got a bit tricky.
It's important to recognize that having four quarterbacks on the active roster is often viewed as a lot. At the same time, it's not as uncommon as some people like to make it seem around the NFL at this point.
Recently, speaking to reporters about how he feels about it, the Steelers' starting quarterback had a lot to say. He believed that those four guys were four of the best 53 players on the team and deserved to make it.
"Obviously, when you do that, you're taking a spot away from another place on the team," Rodgers said Wednesday, per Trib Live. "But at the same time, if the best 53 are going to make it, then that's saying they did. I think those four are part of the best 53. So, I'm happy for all of those guys."
"I was thinking it was a possibility," Rodgers said, "but I don't think I've been on a roster with four quarterbacks."
Rodgers has been very outspoken in the past about what he wants on a team, so if he felt like somebody was left off and one of those guys didn't deserve to play, he wouldn't have beaten around the bush too much.
I don't think it's unfair to say that all four guys deserve a shot to make it, and the Steelers ultimately have to show that, but regardless, it's a promising sign for Allar.
