Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is expected to visit with the team this week for an in-person meeting, the Fan Morning Show reported on Thursday, a major step toward him potentially returning to the club for 2026.
Rodgers has not given the team a firm indication of his intentions, but all signs have pointed to him returning to the team throughout the offseason. Rodgers and general manager Omar Khan and head coach Mike McCarthy have been in near-constant communication throughout the offseason, and the Steelers never made even the hint of move toward signing another veteran quarterback.
Rodgers has his home in Pittsburgh, and never cleaned out his locker at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex, but has not been back in the city since the end of the 2025 season, making his visit this week noteworthy.
The holdup the entire time has simply been Rodgers deciding whether he wants to return for his 22nd season of professional football, and the team does not expect financial or contract issues to be a hurdle in any way, a team source confirmed to Steelers Now.
While the team has remained patient in waiting for Rodgers to make up his mind, the front office also expected to have a decision by now, with president Art Rooney II saying the team would know before the 2026 NFL Draft — a statement he was later forced to backtrack. His latest statement, on April 21, was that the team should know Rodgers’ decision in a couple of weeks.
Since then, the Steelers placed a rare UFA tender on Rodgers that would give them some compensation if he chooses to sign with another team, and makes their rights to him exclusive if he waits until after the start of training camp to sign. Neither of those outcomes is expected by the club, who made the move as a precaution, Rooney said.
Rodgers is not the only one making his way to Pittsburgh. The Steelers are hosting their rookie minicamp this weekend, with the 2026 NFL Draft class, including quarterback Drew Allar , making their on-field debut.
