Alabama OC Ryan Grubb reveals update on starting left tackle position

The Alabama Crimson Tide will have almost an entirely different look to the offensive line in 2026.

The Tide lost a multitude of linemen to both the NFL draft and transfer portal this offseason. Sophomore tackle Michael Carroll is the lone starting offensive lineman to return to Tuscaloosa following the 2025 campaign, as Carroll is expected to continue to thrive throughout his second season at Alabama .

Alabama offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb recently took a moment following Thursday's spring practice to reveal an update as to who could start at left tackle this season opposite of Carroll, as Grubb stated the Tide have a clear frontrunner at the position already.

"It starts with Jackson (Lloyd) and Michael (Carroll), and then at the center position, Racin Delgatty has been doing an awesome job at center." Grubb stated. "I think he's really taken the reins quickly, so excited to see him out there, but Jackson Lloyd's one guy, just on the football field, forget O, D, whatever, he has really stood out as a guy that we're going to be really excited about as our left tackle."

"It's not," Grubb also added when asked about how close competition was behind Lloyd. "It's not. He's the left tackle. He's the guy."

Lloyd is a talented lineman that could easily thrive at left tackle this upcoming season. The versatile big man was ranked as the No. 7 offensive tackle and the No. 45 overall player from the class of 2025, per the 247Sports Composite rankings . He was ranked as the No. 3 overall player from the state of California as well.

It appears that Lloyd will likely enter the 2026 campaign as Alabama’s starting left tackle, as the rising star will get a true chance to shine in Tuscaloosa in the near future.
