The Los Angeles Dodgers are reportedly acquiring outfielder Alek Thomas, who was recently designated for assignment by the Arizona Diamondbacks . Alden Gonzalez of ESPN reports that Arizona is receiving outfield prospect Jose Requena in return. The Diamondbacks surprisingly made the move while promoting top prospect Ryan Waldschmidt . Thomas had been an everyday outfielder in Arizona before the Diamondbacks moved on.
Thomas, 26, played in Arizona from 2022-2026. He became an everyday centerfielder with the team and made a significant impact for a number of years. Through 28 games played in 2026, however, Thomas hit just .181/.222/.34o with two home runs and four stolen bases.
The Dodgers are hoping that a fresh start will help Thomas get back on track. The outfielder features the potential to help the ball club.
For LA, acquiring Thomas gives them another left-handed bat who can help out in the outfield. Teoscar Hernandez , Kyle Tucker and Andy Pages currently lead the outfield. Alex Call provides depth. Bringing in a guy like Thomas only gives the Dodgers more depth. Even if he continues to struggle offensively, Thomas could potentially help out at any defensive position.
The Dodgers were defeated 9-3 by the San Francisco Giants on Monday night. LA is now a half-game behind the San Diego Padres in the National League West standings. Overall, the Dodgers are just 4-6 in their past 10 games.
Los Angeles will continue the series against San Francisco on Tuesday night at 10:10 PM EST. Perhaps Alek Thomas will help the Dodgers get back on track sooner rather than later.
