The Montreal Canadiens had an early lead in Game 7 that was wiped away by the Buffalo Sabres . However, they did not let this deter them in the slightest. The Canadiens have won Game 7 over Buffalo, and they are off to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2014.
The Habs received big contributions from the likes of Lane Hutson and Jakub Dobes . Hutson provided an assist in the first period to continue his playoff assist streak. Meanwhile, Dobes made 23 saves on 25 shots. In the end, it was Alex Newhook who was the hero , scoring the game-winning goal in Monday night's victory.
The Canadiens are off to the East Final for the first time since 2014. However, they have reached the final four of the playoffs more recently. They took on the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2021 Stanley Cup Semifinals. Due to COVID-19, though, the league realigned and did not recognize conferences that season.
Newhook has been sensational during the series against the Sabres . He finishes the series with six goals, including the game-winner on Monday night. He scored five of those goals in a three-game span between Games 2 and 4 of this series.
In the East Final, the Habs will take on the Carolina Hurricanes . Carolina has not played since May 9th when they completed a sweep over the Philadelphia Flyers . In fact, Carolina swept their way to the East Final. When Game 1 of the East Final begins on Thursday, it will be the Hurricanes' ninth game since April 17th.
The Hurricanes certainly have rest on their side. However, Montreal is likely to be much sharper on the ice than its opponents. This will be an intriguing East Final to watch, espeically for neutral fans.
