Alex Tuch scored a goal in the victory, while Tage Thompson recorded two assists. This offensive performance led the Sabres to a big 4-1 win over the Bruins. And as a result, they are on to the second round of the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Sabres are entering uncharted territory. This is the team’s first playoff series victory in nearly 20 years. Buffalo last advanced in the 2007 Stanley Cup Playoffs. They defeated the New York Rangers to earn a spot in the Eastern Conference Finals that year.

Buffalo played good hockey throughout the series. The Sabres earned a comeback win in Game 1, before claiming Games 3 and 4 in much more commanding fashion. However, nerves set in for the Sabres in Game 5, and they were unable to finish the Bruins at home.

The Sabres are headed to the second round, but must wait a few days to learn who their opponent will be. The Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Montreal Canadiens on Friday night. As a result, Tampa and Montreal will play a Game 7 on Sunday.

For now, Buffalo can celebrate as their magical season continues. They will be a very tough out in the second round, no matter who they face. And they will have time to prepare for whichever team comes their way next in the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
