Alter grad transferring to Southern Conference program
Apr. 14—Alter High School graduate RJ Greer will play his sophomore season at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, he announced Tuesday, April 14.
Greer, a 6-foot-3 guard, made the decision 13 days after entering the transfer portal after one season with the Davidson Wildcats.
Greer averaged 3.7 points in 17 appearances as a freshman. He was originally a North Carolina State recruit before N.C. State fired coach Kevin Keatts and replaced him with Will Wade.
Greensboro, a Southern Conference program, finished 13-19 last season, ending a streak of three straight 20-win seasons. Greensboro did not renew coach Mike Jones' contract after the season. He was 99-69 in five seasons.
After the coaching change, 11 Greensboro players entered the transfer portal.
On March 18, Greensboro hired Jerod Haase, a former head coach at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Stanford.
Greensboro last played in the NCAA tournament in 2021. That was the final season for coach Wes Miller before he took the head coaching job at Cincinnati.
