- Alysha Clark Has A Blunt Message For Young Dallas Wings Stars: “You Can’t Skip Things”

Every locker room has one player who notices what everybody else skips. For the Dallas Wings, that player is Alysha Clark, and she knows exactly how it lands with the younger group.
Now, Clark has opened up about it. Speaking with Aliyah Boston and Candace Parker on Post Moves, the veteran forward was asked what she tells young teammates who feel like coaches never let up and every detail does not need to be that serious.
Clark started with a joke at her own expense. She figures the complaints were aimed at her.
" I feel like they were probably saying that about me ," Clark said. " Like, AC, dang, it's just a free throw. "
Clark admitted she was on the wrong side of the free throw line on the play, so the joke came with a bit of self-awareness.
But the punchline led straight to her message. Clark explained that the little things are the whole point, and she did not soften it.
" For me, it's like, that's my message is like, everything is in the details ," Clark said. " You can't skip things. You can't not know what it is that you need to be doing. "
Clark framed the little things as separators once the games get tight, and she gave two specific pictures of what that looks like.
" Those little things are going to be the separators when it comes crunch time, like when you see in the playoffs ," Clark said. " It's literally a difference of one 50-50 ball rolling out of bounds that somebody maybe didn't give that extra effort to go get, or one extra rebound at the free throw line that they didn't box out. "
Clark closed her answer by explaining how she delivers the message.
" So for me, it's just constantly reminding them of those little details and then just being that example of it ," she said.
Clark is not asking the young Wings to do anything she is not willing to do herself.
Dallas has felt how thin the margin gets. The Wings went 27-17, a 17-win jump from the 10-34 season in 2025, and finished fourth in the West despite losing Azzi Fudd for the rest of the year in August. Then the Golden State Valkyries ended their run in a tense three-game first-round series.
The same Post Moves conversation brought up the player Clark believes the message matters most for. She said Paige Bueckers is already close to complete , but there is one layer left.
" For me personally, I feel her next step in her growth is to be able to command and direct a team ," Clark said. " She has the work ethic and the mentality, and all of that down. "
Clark also admitted she keeps forgetting Bueckers is only in her second year. Bueckers led Dallas with 20.9 points and 5.9 assists per game, set Wings records with 878 points and 247 assists, and dropped a season-high 34 points on the Toronto Tempo in July. Those are franchise-altering numbers. They also raise the bar for the group around her.
Bueckers sounds like she is already working on it. Earlier this season, she said she wanted to be more assertive, and she did not want that to come at the cost of her teammates.
" I feel like I can be more aggressive ," Bueckers said. " But not just for me, but also for creating for others. "
Knowing when to score and when to pass is its own kind of detail, and Clark believes it will be " insane " once Bueckers has it figured out.
Dallas already knows how small the difference can be in a series. In 2027, the Wings have a franchise-record scorer, a fresh playoff loss, and a veteran who will not stop talking about free-throw-line box-outs. The question is whether the young group listens closely enough to flip the next close playoff game.
