One NFL analyst thinks the latest Aaron Rodgers news is only helping the Pittsburgh Steelers AFC North rival.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are set to get a big upgrade to their quarterback room as Aaron Rodgers is expected to visit with the team this week for an in-person meeting during which many believe a contract could finally be agreed upon. However, one analyst thinks it should be the Steelers AFC North rival who is most excited.
NFL analyst Nick Wright believes the biggest benefactor of Rodgers reuniting with Pittsburgh is the Baltimore Ravens .
"Here is why I think this is good news for the Ravens," Wright said on First Things First . "Every single year the Steelers kick this can down the road is good for the Ravens. Short term, yes, the two games in Pittsburgh are now a touch harder. Because he is better than Drew Allar , they are so much less likely to get the franchise quarterback next year. They are so much more likely to continue to be on this treadmill of mediocrity, and now, Lamar [Jackson]'s in a division where it's like, 'I've got one other quarterback that matters in [Joe] Burrow and the Browns are nowhere close to having a quarterback that matters, and the Steelers are in denial about how much a quarterback matters."
The Steelers will be a better football team with Rodgers at quarterback this season, despite whatever upside the team or fans think former sixth-round pick Will Howard and third-round rookie Drew Allar have.
Last season, Rodgers led Pittsburgh to an AFC North title while passing for 3,322 yards, 24 touchdowns and just seven interceptions.
However, he was still unable to deliver what the last few quarterbacks failed to do for the Steelers: Winning a playoff game.

That is probably unlikely to change in 2026, too, and is why Wright thinks this move doesn't make any sense for the Steelers, in addition to Rodgers taking them for whatever they've got.
"I think the Steelers thirst to not be awful is the worst thing they have going for them, not willing to reset for a year, and Rodgers will prevent that," Wright continued. "Also, I think Rodgers is going to squeeze them on the money. I think that's the hidden subtext of this."
As of now, the Steelers would owe Rodgers just over $15 million after offering him a UFA tender, which is a one-year contract at a 10% raise from his previous salary. But that number could certainly change after he meets with the team this week.
