When the Vegas Golden Knights fired Bruce Cassidy and hired John Tortorella with a few games left in the season, no one expected a deep run. Yet, they are now one win away from the Stanley Cup after an improbable Game 3 comeback win against the Colorado Avalanche. An analyst gave Tortorella his flowers for helping guide the comeback.
ESPN analyst Kevin Weeks praised the calm that Tortorella displayed when the Knights trailed 3-0. Additionally, he complimented the coach for his ability to steer the sheep back on course.

Despite taking a 3-0 lead, the Avalanche collapsed under pressure , and the Golden Knights capitalized on the miscues. Things looked bleak for Vegas. Yet, the Golden Knights rallied to stun the Avalanche, and now are one win away from advancing to the Stanley Cup for the second time in four seasons.
When the Golden Knights fired Cassidy, things were dire in Sin City. There was a lot of inconsistency, and the Knights were losing a lot of winnable games. Then, Tortorella came on board and tightened the ship. Counting the regular season, the Golden Knights are 18-4-1 in 23 games since hiring Tortorella. He has awakened something in the team that did not exist during many parts of the regular season.
Tortorella has energized this team, and it has them one win away from eliminating the top-seeded Avalanche. They have not done anything special. They are cutting down the passes and tightening things up, preventing the Avalanche from skating all over the ice. It's the same strategy they utilized against the Utah Mammoth and Anaheim Ducks. While Tortorella ususally wears out his welcome wherever he goes, he is doing everything right to position the Knights for a chance to win their second Stanley Cup in franchise history.
