- Angels Catcher Begins Rehab Assignment After Two-Month IL Stint
Travis d'Arnaud took a big step toward returning from the injured list on Friday. The Los Angeles Angels veteran catcher started a rehab assignment with Triple-A Salt Lake.
The 37-year-old has been out since May 7 with plantar fasciitis in his right foot. The Angels transferred d'Arnaud to the 60-day IL at the beginning of June.

When backup catcher Sebastián Rivero went down with a left hamate fracture on June 10, the Angels traded with the Toronto Blue Jays for catcher Tyler Heineman . Heineman has caught seven games for the Halos since then, but Logan O'Hoppe has continued to take on the majority of the workload since d'Arnaud's injury.

O'Hoppe and d'Arnaud have been the Angels' primary catchers for the past two season, so d'Arnaud's return would be a big boost for the Halos' second half of the season.
In the first game of his rehab assignment on Friday, d'Arnaud started at catcher and recorded a hit and a walk in two at-bats. He is on track to return from the IL sometime later this month, according to the Angels' injured list .

How Did d'Arnaud Perform Before His Injury?
In his second full season with the Angels, d'Arnaud played in 14 games before going down with his injury. He slashed .200/.300/.314 with a .614 OPS, a home run and three RBIs across 35 at-bats.

Last season, d'Arnaud averaged a career-worst .197 in 69 games with the Angels. He also missed part of September with a concussion.
The Long Beach, California native is currently playing on the final season of the two-year, $12 million contract he signed with the Angels in November 2024.
