The Los Angeles Angels are mired in yet another disappointing season, and fans have had enough. Angels fans are demanding that team owner Arte Moreno sell the team. The fans protested Moreno at the team stadium Saturday.
A video from the outlet Foul Territory showed fans carrying signs , saying "Sell" and other messages to Moreno.
The protest also had fans literally shouting out for change. Los Angeles hasn't made the postseason since 2014, which is the longest active drought in Major League Baseball.
"The group has been chanting "Sell the team," and "Arte's gotta go," the California Post reported on X, formerly Twitter.
This season, the Angels are just 19-34. Los Angeles is last in the American League West. The team defeated the Texas Rangers on Saturday, 5-2.
Moreno hasn't made many fans among the Angels faithful recently. Before the season, Moreno made bizarre comments about the fans and that they didn't really care about winning. L.A.'s players were reportedly baffled by that.
Arte Moreno has angered the Angels fanbase
It appears that Moreno has worn out his welcome among fans.
"This is the first time something like this has happened in Angels fan history," Angels fan Johnny Gonzalez said, per Yahoo Sports, who helped organize the protest. "We've reached a boiling point, and you can see it. I'm just happy all the fans are here to support each other, make a message, and stand up for what's right."
Over the last 10 years, L.A. had talent like Shohei Ohtani on the roster. The Angels though couldn't win with him. Fans blame Moreno for that.
"He doesn't care about the fans, he doesn't care about the club. He cares about his bottom line. He cares about calling himself a Major League Baseball owner," Angels fan Kristin Gallagher said. "But you know, how pathetic is it to completely change their operations to insulate Arte from exposure."
Moreno is not the only MLB owner that gets a torrent of criticism. Pittsburgh Pirates fans have also been calling for owner Bob Nutting to sell that team . The Pirates have the second longest playoff drought in MLB, having last made the postseason in 2015.
The Angels play the Rangers again on Sunday. L.A. has won back-to-back games.
