The New York Mets claimed Los Angeles Angels infielder Kyren Paris off of waivers Thursday, ending his seven-year stint in the organization.

The Angels drafted Paris in the second round of the 2019 draft, and he featured in parts of four seasons for the team in MLB.
Paris played in eight hames for the Angels in 2026, striking out eight times in 15 hitless at-bats while walking three times. He saw his longest run of MLB action in 2025, when he had. blistering start to the season after breaking camp with the team. Paris had an OPS higher than 1.000 through the middle of April in 2025 before falling into a slump and returning to Triple-A.
Through his 88 games in MLB from 2023-26, Paris had seven homers and 17 RBIs, posting a .510 OPS with 101 strikeouts in 232 at-bats.

Paris featured in both Double-A and Triple-A this season, posting a .842 OPS in 93 games, though he had a .981 OPS in Triple-A.
The Angels didn't have an explicit need for Paris in their team, as their outfield consisted of players better than him for the majority of the season. Mike Trout obviously commanded a spot in the outfield for the entire season, and Wade Meckler also made himself at home with some strong performances throughout the year.
Factoring in Christian Moore's transition to outfield and the contributions of players like Jose Siri, Josh Lowe and Bryce Teodosio, there wasn't much room for Paris.

Who Else Did the Angels Put on Waivers?
Paris wasn't the only player the Angels placed on waivers to start the offseason, but he is the sole player to depart thus far.

Left-handed Pitcher Sammy Peralta and catcher Sebastián Rivero both landed on waivers, though they both cleared them before the organization sent them outright to Triple-A.
The Angels now have three more open roster spots, allowing them to be a little more active in the offseason as they look to bounce back from the first 100-loss season in Franchise history. Before that, though, they have to sort out their vacant managerial position and find a replacement for interim general manager John Mozeliak, who filled in for the team after they fired Perry Minasian.
