Jo Adell received plenty of appreciation from Los Angeles Angels fans Monday night as the Cleveland Guardians outfielder returned to Angel Stadium for the first time since being traded.

Adell acknowledged the applause by tipping his helmet before his first-inning plate appearance, marking his first trip to the batter's box in Anaheim as a visiting player.

The reunion came three weeks after L.A. dealt Adell to the Guardians in exchange for minor-league catcher Jacob Cozart at the August 3 MLB trade deadline. The move ended the outfielder's lengthy run with the only organization he had known since entering professional baseball.

Los Angeles selected Adell with the No. 10 overall pick in the 2017 MLB Draft out of Ballard High School in Louisville, Kentucky. He rose through the system as one of baseball's top prospects before developing into a regular power threat, culminating in a career-high 37 home runs during the 2025 season.
The Guardians acquired the 27-year-old to add right-handed power while pursuing an American League wild-card berth. His return to Anaheim therefore arrived under considerably different circumstances, with Adell now trying to help the Guardians during the stretch of the 2026 MLB season.
Adell struck out in his first plate appearance Monday, but the moment before the at-bat highlighted the connection he maintained with the Angels fan base following the trade. The reception also underscored the respect he built during his years in Anaheim before beginning a new chapter with Cleveland.
