The Los Angeles Angels continued their death march of a season against with an 8-1 loss to the Boston Red Sox , as Sam Aldegheri and Samy Natera combined to give up seven runs in five innings to give the Bosox an easy night.
Aldegheri has had some good starts here and there, but this wasn't one of them. Boston opened the scoring in the first with a three-run homer from Willson Contreras as Aldegheri once again struggled with his control by walking two hitters in front of Contreras.

The Angels got one back in the second via a home run by the resurgent Josh Lowe , but Sox starter Sonny Gray restored order until the fifth, when Boston got four more runs off reliever Samy Natera to put the game away.
It was Natera's first outing that was truly ugly, as he gave up a two-run RBI double to Wilyer Abreu , who then scored on a two-run homer by Romy Gonzalez .
The Angels did nothing for the rest of the night as the Red Sox cruised to the easy win after adding a token run in the eighth via an RBI double from Cedanne Rafaela , as the crowd had to wait for the end of the game to enjoy the obligatory post-game fireworks show to celebrate the fourth of July.
The Halos certainly don't have much to celebrate these days. They did get the news that Mike Trout will be an All-Star starter after he led outfielders in the voting process, and they weill get Trout back in the lineup early this week based on his latest update as he continues to rehab from his recent hamstring strain.

Beyond that the Angels have little to look forward to beyond the efforts of their young pitchers, and that's what made this loss especially disappointing. Aldegheri continued his one step forward, another back process as a young starter, and Natera saw his ERA rise to an unsightly 3.97 after his bad inning.
The Angels saw their record drop to 36-54, and they're now keeping company with the likes of the Colorado Rockies and Kansas City Royals at the bottom of the big-league pack. They had the opportunity to insert themselves back in the AL West "race," but that ship has now sailed as their latest losing streak reached five games. New GM John Mozeliak has stated that manager Kurt Suzuki 's job is safe through the end of the season, but you have to wonder if more of this kind of lifeless baseball might change that going forward.
