Another blow for Eagles' o-line? Drew Kendall misses second straight practice originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia
As if the Eagles' offensive line wasn't already in shambles.
Drew Kendall, who started the last three games at center in place of Cam Jurgens, missed a second straight practice Thursday with a knee injury he suffered in the loss to the Rams.
Kendall wasn't on the field during the portion of practice open to the media Thursday. It doesn't mean he'll miss the game against the Jaguars Sunday, but missing the first two days of the practice week is not a ideal. The Eagles are scheduled to practice in South Philadelphia Friday before flying to London.
The Eagles are already down three Pro Bowl offensive linemen – right tackle Lane Johnson, who announced his immediate retirement on Tuesday, Cam Jurgens, traded to the Ravens on Wednesday, and Landon Dickerson, who isn't eligible to return from Injured Reserve for another week.
If Kendall can't play, the Eagles have two options, both involving Willie Lampkin and another player both making their first career starts.
Jake Majors, currently on the practice squad, could start at center with Lampkin at left guard or Lampkin could start at center with rookie 6th-round Micah Morris at left guard.
None of those three have ever played a regular-season snap on the offensive line.
Lampkin has played in all four games, with two snaps on offense and 19 on special teams. Morris has played in two games with one snap on offense and five on special teams. Majors, who spent last year on the practice squad, has never played an NFL snap. The Eagles already have rookie Markel Bell at right tackle. Bell, the rookie 3rd-round pick, made his first career start Sunday.
Undrafted rookie James Brockermeyer, who spent the summer with the Falcons, and Kiran Amegadjie, a 3rd-round pick of the Bears in 2024, were also taking interior o-line reps Wednesday. The Eagles signed Amegadjie to the practice squad on Sept. 1 and added Brockermeyer to the practice squad Wednesday.
However they line things up, the Eagles will have three offensive line starters who have made one or fewer career starts. Last time that happened was Week 1 of the 1944 season, when Bruno Banducci, Bob Friedman and Bap Manzini each made their first career start in the Eagles' 28-7 win over the Boston Yanks at Fenway Park.
Also Wednesday, DeVonta Smith, who missed the game Sunday, wasn't practicing but was on a side field working with a trainer and doing some running. No sign of Saquon Barkley, who's dealing with a hamstring injury, or Jonathan Greenard, who has an ankle injury.
Linebacker Jihaad Campbell, who was out on Wednesday with a knee injury, was on the field Thursday with his helmet so it looked like he would be participating to some extent.
