The Houston Astros had a very interesting 2026 campaign as they were able to win the AL West, but they were very inconsistent overall, however designated hitter Yordan Alvarez was quite consistent and was the best player on the team over the course of this past season.
On that note, Bleacher Report put together its All-MLB team roster for the 2026 season by having a panel including MLB writers Joel Reuter, Tim Kelly, Kerry Miller, and Zach Rymer, deputy editor Eric Ball, and staff editor Jason Dunbar.
When it comes to the selections for the All-MLB team for Bleacher Report, Alvarez was selected to the Bleacher Report All-MLB team as a unanimous selection.
When it comes to Alvarez being a unanimous selection that is a very impressive accomplishment as he was one of nine players who were unanimously selected to be on the Bleacher Report All-MLB team, and in addition to that it demonstartes just how great Alvarez was during the 2026 season.
Looking at Alvarez's 2026 campaign, one of the biggest storylines was the fact that he was on a chase for the Triple Crown and while he did fall just short of that he was very impressive as he recorded a batting average of .316 (clinched the AL batting title and had the best batting average in the MLB), 106 RBIs (No. 2 in the AL), and 42 home runs (No. 2 in the AL).
Seeing these stats, it is very clear that Alvarez was very dynamic at the plate this past season and based on that performance Bleacher Report also notes that he will likely win AL MVP and while that is not confirmed his performance in 2026 will give him a great chance to win the award.
More stats that show how incredible Alvarez was in 2026 are the fact that he was the only batter in all of baseball who was able to finish with a walk rate above 15 percent as well as a strikeout percentage below 20 percent.
The fact that Alvarez was able to have a walk rate above 15 percent and a strikeout percentage below 20 percent is incredible as the Astros were very inconsistent from the plate as a team, so opposing pitchers were able to focus a lot on Alvarez, but even so Alvarez was able to stay productive.
Additionally, Alvarez led the AL in on-base percentage with a .432, slugging percentage with .601, OPS+ with 190, and in walks with 109 which once again shows how productive he was in 2026 and why he was a unanimous selection to the Bleacher Report All-MLB team.
With all that said, it will be interesting to see if Alvarez is able to bring home AL MVP honors and if he can repeat his performance in 2027 or potentially be even better to help the Astros have more team success and play deeper into October rather than getting eliminated early like this year.
