What did the Houston Astros players say about the home crowd booing?
Astros players Bennett Sousa and Christian Walker spoke to The Athletic about the home crowd during their postgame interviews after Tuesday's loss to the White Sox. Expressing his frustration over the reaction, Sousa said
:
"This team has laid a lot on the line to be in this position to give the fans a playoff game, a playoff series. We want their support. As a team and as a staff, we know how we feel about our guys. And if that's felt differently from the outside, that's OK. We can live with that. But as a team, we know that we lay it on the line every day. We've been playing hard. We got in the playoffs. We just really need the support of our fans." said Bennett Sousa.
Walker also opened up about his frustration with the fans, adding:
"It's extremely frustrating as a home player. We're here, playing at home; we need cheers. We need energy. We don't need boos. What purpose does that serve in that moment? Whatever fans are feeling, we're feeling it tenfold. We're the ones out there."
Sousa took the mound in the seventh inning and threw 13 pitches over 1.0 inning, allowing two hits, recording one strikeout, and giving up one run. Walker started at first base and went 0-for-2. He did, however, draw a leadoff walk in the bottom of the ninth inning to spark a late rally attempt.
