The Athletics will call up a pitching prospect to bolster the starting rotation.
According to MLB.com's Martin Gallegos , the AL West club will promote right-hander Kade Morris from Triple-A Las Vegas.
Morris, a former third-round pick of the New York Mets , was acquired in the trade that sent right-hander Paul Blackburn to Queens in 2024.
He is the Athletic's No. 12 ranked prospect on MLB Pipeline and throws a fastball, changeup, curveball, slider, and sweeper.
"Morris can run his fastball up to 97 mph, while his sinker sits in the mid 90s with good armside run and generates a ton of ground balls," the 6-foot-3 right-hander's MLB Pipeline bio reads. "He's added a low-80s sweeper as a variation from his mid-80s slider. His mid-70s curveball has improved, as has his upper-80s changeup, though that pitch remains behind his other offerings in terms of effectiveness."

The 23-year-old has made 11 starts in Triple-A this season, posting a 4.45 ERA with 49 strikeouts and a 1.47 WHIP in 60.2 innings.
This may not be the move that propels the A's to a postseason spot, but Morris can serve as a quality arm in the rotation for the time being.
