The Athletics are on the outside looking in at a postseason spot.
Their postseason hopes are slim to none, and the A's will need pitchers to eat innings during the final stretch of the regular season.
The AL West club added a former Los Angeles Dodgers reliever on Monday, a right-hander who was recently pitching in the Korea Baseball Organization in South Korea with the KT Wiz.
According to Mark Polishuk of MLB Trade Rumors , the A's have signed Matt Sauer to a minor league contract.
Sauer , 27, was a second-round draft selection by the New York Yankees in 2017. The Kansas City Royals took him from the Yankees' farm system in the 2023 Rule 5 Draft.
He made his MLB debut in 2024 with the Royals and appeared in 10 games with the Dodgers in 2025, posting a 6.37 ERA with 24 strikeouts in 29.2 innings.

With the Wiz, Sauer posted a 4.88 ERA with a 15.6% strikeout rate in 18 starts in South Korea.
"Sauer has been a starter for most of his minor league and KBO career, so the A's could use him in either capacity as a Triple-A depth option or as a candidate for a spot on the 26-man roster," Polishuk wrote.
The A's have used 31 different pitchers in 2026. Sauer can become the 32nd with a solid showing at Triple-A Las Vegas.
