It is one of the hardest days on the calendar for players in the National Football League, as NFL teams have to cut their roster sizes down to just 53 players, and a ,lot of hard decisions needing to be made. A pair of former Spartans were on the wrong side of the news cycle today, failing to make a 53-man roster, and are in need of finding a new home. The Atlanta Falcons have made the decision to move on from tight end Jack Velling and running back Nathan Carter .
Velling, undrafted in this past year's draft, made a strong case to make the roster for the Falcons after having a very strong training camp, which included a TD grab .
Carter, on the other hand, was a camp darling for the Falcons last season and spent 2025 on the active roster. He rushed the ball nine times for 60 yards during the year, and had strong performances on special teams. Now, it looks like the Falcons are going in a different direction in the backfield.
