Atletico Madrid ready to pay Juventus off to keep David
Jonathan David could leave Juventus at the end of the season after struggling to make an impact in Turin, with Atletico Madrid reportedly interested in keeping him following his impressive start on loan . The Canadian striker's situation has changed dramatically, and a permanent departure could bring an early end to his disappointing spell with the Italian club.
David joined Juventus as a free agent in the summer of 2025 after establishing himself as a prolific goalscorer at Lille. The Bianconeri believed they had secured one of Europe's most dangerous forwards, but his performances in Italy fell well short of expectations.

David struggles to make his mark at Juventus
The Canadian found goals difficult to come by during his time at Juventus, failing to reproduce the form that had made him such an attractive signing. His struggles quickly raised questions about whether he could become the leading striker the club had hoped to acquire.
Luciano Spalletti attempted to get the best out of David, but the forward failed to deliver the expected results. Despite arriving with a strong reputation from his time in France, he could not establish himself as a consistent attacking threat for the Bianconeri .
His difficulties mean that David risks being remembered as a disappointing signing if he leaves Juventus after just one season. The club had expected much more from a player who had regularly demonstrated his finishing ability at Lille.

However, his recent performances suggest that the problems he experienced in Turin have not stopped him from becoming an effective striker elsewhere.

Atletico Madrid consider permanent deal
David has enjoyed a much stronger start to life on loan at Atletico Madrid, where he has quickly begun finding the net. The Spanish side are pleased with his contributions and are reportedly considering making his stay permanent.
According to Calciomercato , Atletico Madrid are ready to activate the €25 million buy-out clause included in his loan agreement. Such a move would allow the club to retain the Canadian striker rather than return him to Juventus at the end of his loan spell.

Atletico are keen to maintain their attacking strength, and David's early performances have encouraged them to pursue a permanent transfer. Keeping him for another season could provide continuity in their forward line while allowing the striker to build on his promising start.
For Juventus, a permanent departure would also be a welcome outcome. The Bianconeri reportedly have little desire to bring David back into their squad and would be happy to see him leave at the end of the campaign.
