Steven Pearl and the Auburn Tigers received great news this week: the NCAA has cleared international signee Narcisse Ngoy to suit up for the orange and blue, and he will have two years of eligibility.
Before the news became official, CJ Moore of The Athletic included Ngoy in his list of 11 international newcomers who could make an impact this season . Moore explained that Ngoy's 7-foot-7 wingspan makes him dangerous around the basket, which made him a force in the pick-and-roll with his former team, Poitiers, in France.
Moore also believes that Ngoy, along with Santa Clara transfer Bukky Oboye, will enhance Auburn's defense this season, especially near the rim. Auburn head coach Steven Pearl echoed that fact at Auburn's Pro Day on Thursday.
"Narcisse and Bukky, when they play with that motor and that energy, they change the trajectory of our team," Pearl said Thursday.
Ngoy is one of five "big men" Auburn signed this season to gain size, especially on defense, which will aid guards Tahaad Pettiford and Kevin Overton, Auburn's top returning scorers from last season, as they pursue another great offensive season.
Auburn basketball hits the hardwood for the first time on Wednesday, Oct. 14, against Florida State as part of the "Ballin' in Boutwell" games in Birmingham . The exhibition with the Seminoles will be the first of three before opening the season at Neville Arena on Wednesday, Nov. 4, against Southeastern Louisiana.
