Auburn spring preview: Alex McPherson back to full strength?

When talking about the special teams at Auburn , there is one big question. Will Alex McPherson be back to full strength for his senior season? According to reports during the spring, it appears that will be the case. The health issues that McPherson has suffered the last two seasons has been well documented. During the 2023 season before he was sick, McPherson was perfect going 13 of 13 on field goals. He was also 40 for 40 on extra points.

He only had two attempts during the 2024 season, and was good in 2025 making 20 of 23 kicks. It seems that he now has the power in his kicks back, and that is good news for the Tigers. Auburn has another experienced kicker behind McPherson in Connor Gibbs . He only attempted one field goal last year that was a miss. In 2024 with Southern Miss Gibbs was 10 of 13 with a long of 59 yards.

Auburn has experience returning at punter with Hudson Kaak . The 2026 season will be his second with the Tigers after transferring from Oklahoma State. Kaak ranked No. 14 in the SEC last season at 42 yards per kick. Alex Golesh would not want to see Kaak on the field a lot, but improvement in yardage will defiantly help out the Tigers defense with field position.
